My background is varied and has nearly always centered around language. My academic background in writing and literary analysis and my current avocation as an incessant reader gives me the skills to read deeply and understand the emotional background of each character, while my experience as an educator and as a volunteer reading aloud to pre-K and kindergarten classes has helped me develop an appreciation for how young humans see the world and has kept me apprised of the latest in GenZ and GenAlpha slang.
My previous career in the pharmaceutical industry left me comfortable with and conversant in scientific terminology and experienced with being creative within external limitations and tight timelines. I also worked as a yoga instructor and doula, which gave me experience both practicing a soothing voice for relaxation and comfort and observing fierce emotions during intense times. In addition, as a former Navy brat and as an adult with sand in my shoes, I have lived in seven US states and been immersed in cultures and accents in all four time zones in the contiguous US.
